“Never before have I been witness to such a musical phenomenon, with so many different personalities and styles coming together to make up one incredible country music event. Each artist brings with them their own unique talent that has made them a part of country music history… It is easy to see how each one could have #1 records, be GRAMMY, ACM and CMA award winners, members of The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. I'm honored and humbled to be in the company of such creative geniuses. I'm proud to still be making country music history with my friends”.

David Frizzell

Country Music’s GRAMMY Nominee & CMA & ACM Award winning singer
DAVID FRIZZELL… has one of the greatest voices in country music with a haunting resemblance
to his older brother, the ultimate stylist, Lefty Frizzell. In the early 1980s, Frizzell founded the musical duo of “Frizzell & West” with the gorgeous and gifted Shelly West, daughter of country superstar Dottie West. Their recording of “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma” made its way to Clint Eastwood’s film, “Any Which Way You Can”. Frizzell & West twice won the CMA’s “Vocal Duo of the Year” award, twice won the ACM award for “Vocal Duet of the Year” and were awarded the ACM “Song of the Year” award. During his duet years with West, Frizzell continued a vibrant solo career. He scored a huge chart-topping hit with “I’m Gonna Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home.” The record is a country music standard, and has been featured on CMT’s 40 Greatest Drinking Songs in Country Music, making #17 in the countdown. Also, making #6 in CMT’s countdown of the 100 Greatest Duets is “You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma.” Since 2008, David has been hosting his “Frizzell & Friends” One hour TV Specials for RFD-TV.

Frizzell & Friends Roundup: RFD-TV Special and CD-DVD combo featuring David Frizzell with Lacy J. Dalton, Rex Allen Jr., Marty Haggard and more

Nashville, TENN — Fans of Country music, Western songs, campfires and good friends will delight in a forthcoming television special, album and video.

Frizzell & Friends Roundup was produced by David Frizzell and features some of music’s finest stylists and story tellers.

With award-winning hitmakers, Lacy J. Dalton, Rex Allen Jr. and Marty Haggard, as well as singer/songwriters Larry Woods and

Mike Morgan, Frizzell fulfilled his lifelong dream of an “Old West” cattle drive on the plains of Montana … complete with good friends and good music. The weeklong journey included nights by the campfire, a live concert performance, and just a few saddle sores.

“I have always wanted to go on a cattle drive like John Wayne and sing the great old songs of Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Sons of The Pioneers,” Frizzell says. “My wish came true when some of my best friends met in Custer, Montana where we were filmed on an actual cattle drive and spent evenings singing around the campfire.”

Frizzell & Friends Roundup will air as a TV special on RFD-TV on November 2nd at 8p.m. ET / 7p.m. Central. A CD and DVD combo featuring songs and actual footage of the stars on their cattle drive adventure is also set for release on November 2 on Frizzell’s Nashville America Records label.

Lacy J. Dalton is known for legendary million-airplay hits including “Hard Times,” “Crazy Blue Eyes,”  the worldwide hit, “Black Coffee,” and her signature song, “16th Avenue,” the anthem for Nashville songwriters which was voted among Billboard Magazine’s Top 100 Country Songs of all time.

Rex Allen Jr. is a Western Music Hall of Fame member and legendary entertainer. He’s the namesake heir of Hollywood’s last singing cowboy who has made his own legendary mark with more than 50 hit songs like “Lonely Street,” and “Two Less Lonely People.” He starred on TNN’s The Statler Brothers Show for 9 years.

Marty Haggard is arguably the world’s biggest fan of his dad, Merle Haggard, whom Marty calls “the best country singer/songwriter ever.” Marty’s own career includes a nomination as Best New Male Vocalist in the wake of his song, “Trains Make me Lonesome.” In addition to touring with his dad, Marty has toured with his own band and recorded for Dimension and MTM Records.

Rounding out the entertainment are singer/songwriters and Western storytellers, Larry Woods and Mike Morgan.

David bears a haunting resemblance to his older brother, the ultimate stylist, Lefty Frizzell. The Country music legend has a well-earned reputation for his distinctive delivery of hits like “I’m Gonna Hire a Wino” and “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma,” for his energetic stage presence, and for gathering some of his most gifted friends for collaborative and entertaining live and recorded projects, like the acclaimed Buddy Holly Country Tribute (Nashville America Records 2014).

Of the new project, Frizzell says, “I think John Wayne would’ve been proud of us; riding all day and singing all night out on the Montana range.” The group met in Custer and ended up in Roundup, Montana, filming along the way and performing a concert. It’s all been edited for the RFD-TV special, and for a recorded project that includes two CD’s (one with campfire songs, the other with the live concert performance), plus a DVD of the TV special with added “behind the scenes” bonus footage.

“If you listen real close, you can hear his name whispered in the wind. I wish we had heroes like
John Wayne again.”

“I Wish We Had Heroes Like John Wayne Again
Someone to ride up on a horse and rescue you…”
I have always wanted to go on a cattle drive like John Wayne and sing Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Sons of The Pioneers songs.

My wish has come true. I invited my friends Lacy J Dalton, Rex Allen Jr., Marty Haggard and Larry Woods to meet me in Custer Montana where we filmed us riding horses and had the time of our lives moving those cattle & then that evening sitting around the campfire with our guitars singing & playing some of our favorite western songs. John Wayne would’ve been proud of us, riding all-day & singing all night out on the Montana range…
We ended up in Roundup Montana & filmed a concert in front of many country music fans & put it all together for a RFD-TV Special. The package includes two CD’s (1-with campfire songs 1-with the live in concert songs) Plus a DVD of the TV Special with added “Behind The Scenes”.

“If you listen real close you can hear his name whispered in the wind
I wish we had heroes like John Wayne again”… David Frizzell

The Buddy Holly Country Tribute Review...
David Frizzell and Friends put together a project packed with terrific songs delivered with explosive energy and skill by an impressive group of musicians and artists: The Buddy Holly Country Tribute "Remember Me".

What began as a random sampling of cuts on the CD quickly turned into over an hour of personal enjoyment. The music in this collection is still as captivating and feel good as ever; offering a great blend of nostalgic delight blended with "real" country overtones. I am personally a fan of Buddy Holly's music, but one doesn't have to be in order to enjoy these tunes. Often in "tribute" situations performers try too hard to sound like the original, making the project nothing more than a glorified karaoke recording - Not so with this collection. Each contributing artist added their own flavor to the song making half century old songs sound fresh. If you're a fan of Buddy and the Crickets, country music or better yet, both - you owe it to yourself to give this collection a listen.
